-LA AMLCC makes a call to promote adherence to the multidisciplinary medical follow-up of Colorectal Cancer, for which it promotes the Comprehensive Care and Support Program for Patients with Metastatic Colorectal Cancer.

MEXICO.- The AMLCC (Asociación Mexicana de Lucha Contra el Cáncer AC) through its Comprehensive Care and Support Program for Patients with Metastatic Colorectal Cancer released the details of the panorama of Colorectal Cancer in Mexico, where 14,901 new cases were presented in Mexico of cancer of this type of cancer in 2020, making it the second place for mortality in the country, after breast and prostate cancer.1

As part of the commemoration of the World Day Against Colorectal Cancer (March 31), the AMLCC invites patients and families to seek comprehensive and quality care, promoting adherence to multidisciplinary medical follow-up as a formula to improve the expectation of life and quality of life of the patient in metastatic phases.

Dr. Ivette Margarita Palma Valle, Medical Oncologist at the Instituto Sinaloense de Cancerología indicated that “the challenges for colorectal cancer care are early detection and diagnosis, since in this way the incidence and death rates can be considerably reduced; as well as by promoting healthy habits in the population’s diet ”. He also highlighted that “the transfer of patients carried out by the AMLCC to accredited hospitals has benefited the community, especially in metastatic phases, because in several states of the country there is no hospital infrastructure, supplies or personnel of health for the treatment of colorectal cancer, therefore it is important to join forces to generate a positive impact on the lives of more patients ”.

Colorectal cancer is a tumor originating from the cells of the large intestine and rectum and can develop from the growth of lumps known as polyps (known as tumors), which originate in the lining of the colon or rectum. It can be detected in people over 50 years of age, however, more and more cases are presented in younger people due to the westernization of food.

Mayra Galindo, general director of the AMLCC expressed that “one of the challenges for comprehensive patient care is the accreditation and training of hospitals nationwide. Furthermore, thanks to the Comprehensive Care and Support Program for Patients with Metastatic Colorectal Cancer, it has been possible to change the perception of doctors and the health team on the impact of quality colorectal cancer care ”.

The presence of different factors, such as obesity and sedentary lifestyle, can cause more people of productive ages to suffer from this disease. Patricio González, Patient Coordinator of the AMLCC, pointed out that “efforts have to be redoubled for timely detention, because when patients go to the doctor they are in stage III or IV called metastatic. For this reason, it is important that the community join forces and join with the AMLCC so that through financial support, patients can access health services that their state does not have “

The Program for the Care and Support of Patients with Metastatic Colorectal Cancer is an initiative of the AMLCC, whose main objective is to support patients with this condition, so that they are directed to accredited hospitals far from their areas of residence (mainly in the entities that they have the facilities and health personnel they need to combat their condition and to make the best use of the resources allocated to patient care).
