After a break of just nine hours, the National Council resumed its budget debate on Wednesday. At the beginning the topic of social affairs was on the program, further chapters were health, defense, economy, agriculture and education.
The discussions centered on the areas of pensions and long-term care. The fronts were the usual ones between coalition and opposition. Above all, the reintroduction of discounts in the “hackers’ regulation” polarized.

SPÖ continues to maintain the “hackers regulation”
Again, the Social Democrats requested that the previous mode should be retained or even expanded, for example by additionally taking into account periods of military service and community service. The ÖVP accused ex-Minister of Social Affairs Alois Stöger (SPÖ) quasi pension robbery: “Whoever votes ÖVP becomes poor.” His club colleague Verena Nussbaum campaigned for 50 euros to be added to the cost of raising children to combat poverty in old age among women.

FPÖ would have expected from Anschober more budget for the social sector
The FPÖ did not see the social sector in the budget at all. Social spokeswoman Dagmar Belakowitsch said in the direction of head of department Rudolf Anschober (Greens): “We would have expected that they would fight for a little more money.” She saw the reintroduction of discounts for long-term insured persons as a step towards a planned massive social cut as a result of the Corona crisis.

NEOS referred to Expolision on pension expenses
NEOS social spokesman Gerald Loacker took a completely different direction. He pointed to already exploding pension expenses in the upcoming budget. He accused the ÖVP of forgetting about the young and only looking at older people as a larger group of voters. It would make more sense, for example, to spend the money on free corona tests for nurses before they go back to work in the shift model of 24-hour care.
–
VP club boss August Wöginger scoffed that the NEOS in Vienna had enough to do to eliminate pension privileges there: “In Vienna there are hundreds of ways to limit luxury pensions.” On the occasion of the formation of the red-pink coalition, he presented NEOS club chairwoman Beate Meinl-Reisinger with a red punch donut. Wöginger defended the abolition of the discount-free “hacking rule”. Wahlzuckerl would have to be screwed back in order to install a fair solution. In the case of pension splitting, the club boss promoted a mandatory variant.

Greens put in the debate on care
In the debate, the Greens relied heavily on care. Your MP Ralph Schallmeiner promoted community nurses and wants to take a closer look at a “care-free day”.
–
Social Minister Anschober, on the other hand, drummed once more for the “future job” of the carer. 100,000 employees are wanted. Anyway, one is in the middle of the implementation of the nursing reform. In the pension sector, he emphasized that he was much more involved than some of his predecessors in helping those who needed it, starting with the pension increases. The head of department also advertised the “early starter bonus”, which is supposed to bring an additional payment to people who have worked between the ages of 15 and 20.
