Second massacre in Serbia. The perpetrator was arrested

Ten people were killed and fourteen were injured in Serbia after a 21-year-old man opened fire in an area south of Belgrade.

The carnage comes less than 48 hours after a shooting at an elementary school in the Serbian capital, which left nine dead.

The shooting began on Thursday in three villages near the town of Mladenovac, when the 21-year-old alleged assailant opened fire from a moving vehicle with an automatic weapon and then fled, state broadcaster RTS reported.

The perpetrator was arrested on Friday morning, after a long manhunt.

“U.B., born in 2002, was arrested in the area of the city of Kragujevac, as he is suspected of killing eight people and injuring 14 during the night,” the Serbian interior ministry said, adding that the investigation was ongoing.

According to Serbian media, which also published his photo, the attacker’s name is Uros Blazic.

About 600 policemen launched a manhunt to locate him. The elite Special Anti-Terrorism Unit (SAJ) and the Gendarmerie participated in the search. A helicopter and drones were also involved in the operation to locate the perpetrator.

The attack was preceded by an argument in a yard in front of a school in the village of Dubona. After the fight, the 21-year-old, the son of a soldier, allegedly left the scene and returned, opening fire indiscriminately.

According to Serbian media, the attacker allegedly kidnapped a taxi driver, forcing him to take him to a second village, where he opened fire on picnickers.

According to RTS, a policeman and his sister are among the dead.

Serbian Interior Minister Bratislava Gacic described the latest shooting incident as a “terrorist act,” without elaborating.
