On October 26, at the Cineteca Nacional, the opening of the Second International Transfeminist Film Festival “Miradas Maleducadas” was held. The Women Al Borde Collective organized this event that promised to be a showcase of expression and diversity. However, barely 90 minutes had passed since its start, the event had to be canceled because Laura Glover, a transgender woman who had previously reported acts of discrimination in this same venue, made her entrance along with other non-binary and trans people. .
According to the portal “La Hip de Eva”, the group entered the place pushing the doors, confronted the Staff personnel and then stood in front of the screen to shout slogans.
In videos shared on social networks of the event, Glover can be seen on a chair, while the rest of her companions pull the fabric that, minutes before, projected the documentary “So Filthy and So Happy.”
During the protest, the trans woman firmly declared: “It is very entertaining and fun for them to see a dead trans woman on the screen, but uncomfortable and violent to see them here live. But here we are, and we are not going to remain silent. We are fed up,” according to the gender-focused media.

After that, the audience present, including the organizers and filmmakers, remained silent, and later, the trans woman invited those who were against violence towards the community to join them.

Laura insisted that there has been no repair for the damage she suffered so far. It should be remembered that on September 12, she shared on her social networks that two police officers, both women, slammed hard on the bathroom door where she was. When she went to the ticket office for help, she was abused and ridiculed. In her words: “It is evident that people think they can do whatever they want with us. The experience of our companions, who after being murdered are systematically humiliated to the point of absurdity, proves it.”
The National Cinematheque issued a statement in which it apologized to the young woman and condemned the events that occurred in its facilities. The statement said: “The Cineteca Nacional México is committed to working jointly with @CONAPRED, @COPRED and @CDHCMX in training, awareness and professionalization courses on human rights, the right to non-discrimination and the right to equality.” “This is with the objective of creating spaces and communities free of violence, discrimination and exclusion.”

Under these circumstances, during the Festival, Glover expressed that a general statement was not enough. Additionally, she shared that she was left jobless and homeless due to the media attention that arose following the incident at the facility, as her refusal to remain silent turned her into a controversial and controversial figure.
The trans woman would look for a work space in the film library for both herself and her colleagues, for the company to be sanctioned and for this precedent to become some public policy or law that guarantees that every company, “dependency or institution trains its staff to to have respect and awareness about trans people, and thus prevent this from happening again.”
For her part, Laura reported having been subjected to insults and death threats, which makes her fear for her safety. She also accused local MP Ana Francis Mor, who is part of the Festival organisation, of secretly contacting her with the intention of ‘using her as a bargaining chip’. This accusation caused the deputy to leave the room, generating anger in the group, and in response, they broke the room’s screen with keys.
