Hamas claims, “We sent fewer relief trucks”… About 7 hours delayed

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Yeon-sook = On the 25th (local time), the second day of the ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian armed faction Hamas, the second release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip was barely achieved after several hours of delay.

According to Reuters, Hamas announced that it had handed over 13 Israeli hostages and 7 foreigners to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Soon after, Qatar, which had been mediating the temporary ceasefire negotiations, also confirmed this.

Majid al-Ansari, spokesman for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported to

This announcement was made around 11 p.m. that day, about 7 hours later than the time the hostages were originally expected to be released.

However, the exact size of the hostages has not been confirmed.

Hamas announced the number of foreign hostages at 7, while Qatar announced the number at 4.

On the first day of the temporary ceasefire, 13 hostages and 11 foreigners were released in the first round, and 39 Palestinian prisoners in Israel were released as per the exchange agreement.

The exchange of hostages and prisoners was expected to take place around 4 p.m. on the same day, the second release, but Hamas announced a postponement, saying Israel was not abiding by the terms of the ceasefire agreement.

Hamas said in a statement at the time that Israel had sent less than half of the aid trucks agreed upon and that drone flights had been seen in the southern Gaza Strip, where drone flights are prohibited.

Afterwards, Qatar and Egypt began coordinating again, and the second hostage release was accomplished.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that 13 Israeli hostages and 39 Palestinian prisoners would be exchanged, saying “obstacles delaying the release of the second round of hostages have been overcome.”

With the release of the hostages, it is expected that Palestinian prisoners will soon be released as well.
