As reported by the organizers of the Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain, the tournament must now be canceled with immediate effect. The reason is a second horse that shows mild neurological symptoms.

Only yesterday was the plan to end the tournament next Sunday after a horse with EHV-1 disease showed neurological symptoms. This horse had already been isolated from the other horses when the stable veterinarian first measured an elevated temperature. Now there are two negative results from the second PCR test for the horse in question, whose blood was tested for EHV-1 and EHV-4. The previous test was taken on March 1st, and this had already come back negative, according to the organizers.
Nevertheless, the mare continues to show mild neurological symptoms. The mare should continue to be monitored by the owner’s veterinarian and also by the show veterinarian. Another test is scheduled to be carried out next Monday, March 8th, to continue the analysis.
Case number two on the Sunshine Tour
However, a second case has now been added. Another horse showed mild neurological symptoms today, the organizers announced in a press release. It was also immediately isolated from the other horses. It was the World Equestrian Federation (FEI) who informed the organizers this evening that the entire competition must now be stopped immediately, according to the organizers. There is no getting around it.
