With the recently announced cancellation of the Australian Grand Prix, many Dutch Formula 1 fans only have one question: what are the possibilities for a second Grand Prix at Zandvoort this year? GPFans spoke with Simon Keijzer, spokesperson for the Dutch Grand Prix. He says that after a 36-year absence, the focus is completely on the return of the race in September.
It’s a dream scenario: Max Verstappen who seizes his first world title in Formula 1 in Zandvoort. Sunday 5 September – the date for the Dutch Grand Prix – is too early for that, but with a second race in the seaside resort on Sunday 21 November, that scenario is already one step closer. The Australian Grand Prix is canceled for the second year in a row, Formula 1 announced on Tuesday. As a result, another spot has become available on the list of destinations. The Netherlands then quickly expressed their hopes on the internet for a Dutch Grand Prix 2.0 at the end of the season.

Focus on the race in September
Asked about whether such a scenario is even remotely realistic, Keijzer is clear: “Our focus is completely on the first race. Let’s make sure it goes well after 36 years,” it sounds. Because in addition to the fact that organizing a large public event in corona time is already a big challenge, it has also been a while since the royal class settled in our little country: “The scripts are ready. We know what to do. We focus completely here. on.”
Situation looks good
While restrictions in the Netherlands continue to decrease for the time being, the world is still in a pandemic. As a result, it is never possible to say with one hundred percent certainty that the Grand Prix of Zandvoort can take place this year, but Keijzer is in good spirits: “It looks good,” he says. “It will probably all work out, but of course we don’t have a crystal ball.” The race weekend in Zandvoort is scheduled for Friday 3 September to Sunday 5 September.
