Second generation Subaru BRZ: spy photos – Auto Review

Two weeks ago, Subaru announced discontinued model FAST: for almost nine years, two-doors were assembled at the same plant with related coupes Toyota GT86… Due to modest sales volumes, the leaders of Japanese companies for a long time did not dare to develop cars of the next generation, so in recent years there have been more and more rumors that the GT86 and BRZ models may be left without heirs. Fortunately, companies announced last fall that they are working on new sports cars, which, like the current models, will be developed jointly. And, apparently, the debut of the second generation cars is just around the corner – the spies caught the prototype of the future Subaru BRZ coupe.

The design of the car is still hidden by a camouflage film, although even now you can see the profile of the body and individual exterior details in the pictures. Judging by the photos, after the generation change, the BRZ will retain its current image, but the body kit, optics, radiator grille and almost all body panels will be completely new: it is possible that after moving to the TNGA platform, the two-door will have almost nothing in common with its predecessor. In addition, the new model will finally be able to boast of the long-awaited turbo four – before the GT86 / BRZ were available only with a two-liter aspirated.

However, one can not count on the appearance of “charged” modifications in the range – the Toyota management will certainly not allow internal competition with the new Suproy… Probably, both cars will be offered with a six-speed “mechanics” and with an automatic transmission. The exact date of the debut, of course, has not yet been announced – it was supposed to take place this summer, however, due to the pandemic, second generation cars will be presented closer to the beginning of next year.
