The H9 frame SUV is an old-timer of the Haval brand. It appeared ten years ago and since then has managed to undergo three restylings (although the cars for Russia did not receive all the new things). It seemed that the parent concern Great Wall Motor was deliberately not preparing a successor to the H9 model, since the sister brand Tank has recently been responsible for the production of frame all-terrain vehicles. However, at the end of last summer, Chinese spy photographers caught a large Haval SUV on the road, suspecting it to be a new H9. The assumptions were confirmed, and now the manufacturer itself has published official “spy” photos of the second generation Haval H9 model. Moreover, a slide with information about the car has already appeared on the Internet, which was shown at the presentation at the end of last year… for Russian dealers!
The official photographs show a still camouflaged SUV, but even in this form the family features of modern Haval models are easily recognizable – for example, the fresh Raptor crossover. What stands out is the massive grille, round framed headlights, four taillights combined in pairs and the overall rectangular body shape. The square spare wheel cover on the fifth door looks curious: either this is a clever camouflage, or there really is an additional luggage case installed instead of a spare wheel. The slide from the Russian presentation shows a full-fledged spare wheel. The dimensions of the car are known from the same slide: length – 4859 mm, width – 1934 mm, height – 1853 mm. Ground clearance – 224 mm. That is, in terms of dimensions, the second generation Haval H9 is almost identical to the Tank 500 model.
The architecture of the front panel also has something in common with the Haval Raptor crossover, except that silver analogues are used instead of black plastic fittings, and the 12.3-inch diagonal virtual instrument panel lacks an additional top display. The media system display on the center console has the same diagonal. Support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto protocols is announced, as well as an audio system with ten speakers. The suite of driver assistants includes off-road cruise control with various driving modes. The interior is strictly seven-seater, there are no versions with two rows, and a full “winter” package is also promised.
On the Russian market, the Haval H9 will be offered with two engine options. Gasoline two-liter turbo engine with 224 hp. works with an eight-speed automatic transmission. But the main thing is that a 2.4 liter turbodiesel (184 hp) is also announced, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission! For the more prestigious Tank brand, diesel engines are banned for image reasons. The frame SUV will have all-wheel drive with a clutch on the front axle (Torque-on-Demand), a reduction gear and two locks.
Serial production of the second generation Haval H9 model should begin in May 2024, and sales are scheduled to start in August. The slide already states the approximate price range – from 4.29 to 5.79 million rubles. Although it will probably be revised by the start of sales.
