Straubing Tigers

After the Straubing Tigers did not play any games last weekend for health reasons, the team headed by head coach Tom Pokel will have a home game against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg this weekend. On Sunday the Lower Bavarians travel to the Krefeld Penguins.

The Friday game is already the second meeting with the Grizzlys: On matchday 9, the Straubing Tigers were guests in Wolfsburg and just had to admit defeat 1: 2, although the Niederbayern had a total of 14 shots more on goal than the Autostadters. Overall, things are going well for head coach Mike Stewart’s team, which has already had 17 wins and nine defeats. In the last four encounters, the Grizzlys were able to get eight points: While they won against Düsseldorfer EG and Adler Mannheim with 4: 2 and 7: 3 respectively, they only secured the 3: 2 win against Iserlohn after extra time. However, the away game in Cologne was lost 3-1 from the Haie perspective. The current top scorer of the Grizzlys Wolfsburg is Christopher Desousa, who has already scored 32 points and is also the team’s top scorer with 17 goals.

On Sunday, the Straubing Tigers will have their first away game against the Krefeld Pinguine in the 2021/22 season. The Lower Bavarian team won the home game on matchday 11 with 4: 3. Krefeld had eight points on their account in the last four games: Head coach Igor Zakharkin’s team won the penalty shootout against EHC Red Bull Munich and after regular time also the derby against DEG and the away game against the Bietigheim Steelers. Only last Friday the penguins had to admit defeat to ERC Ingolstadt in overtime in front of their home crowd. The Krefeld scorer list is currently led by Jeremy Bracco with 30 points, the most reliable goalscorer is Alexander Bergström. The Krefeld Penguins will have an away game in Schwenningen this evening.

The Straubing Tigers had to report several corona cases to the team in the past few weeks. In addition to captain Sandro Schönberger, Benedikt Kohl, David Elsner, Mike Connolly and Kael Mouillierat were also affected. Connolly and Mouillierat will be used again tomorrow. Andi Eder has also recovered from his illness and, according to Tom Pokel, will be able to intervene again tomorrow.
