The United States on Tuesday recorded a second deadly alligator attack in less than five months. A 69-year-old woman was walking her dog Tuesday morning near her home in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, when a saurian burst out of a lagoon and grabbed her, dragging her into the water. Rescuers quickly arrived on the scene, near a golf course, and tried to save the unfortunate woman. But the animal then reappeared, seeming to stand guard near the mutilated body of its victim and preventing the emergency services from intervening.
The alligator, a 3-meter male, was finally able to be captured and euthanized, reports WTOC 11. Holly Jenkins’ body is due for an autopsy on Wednesday. For the time being, we do not know what happened to the dog of the sexagenarian. A local resident says she has already seen the disturbing presence of a reptile recently. “We were traveling in a golf cart with my two dogs and a few meters from us there was a huge alligator,” she recalls.
The American calls on walkers to be careful: “You have to be attentive to your environment, realize that they live here, that it is their territory and respect the fact that you have to stay away”, she believes. . This is the second fatal alligator attack in Beaufort County in less than a year. In August 2022, an 88-year-old woman lost her life in similar circumstances. Last February in Florida, an octogenarian walking her dog had also been fatally attacked by a saurian.
