Second club follows Twente and wants to keep the stadium closed: ‘End of discussion’

Go Ahead Eagles seems to be the example of FC Twente and indicates to keep the stadium closed for the time being. General director Jan Willem van Dop indicates that a third occupation for the club from Deventer is not an option, because it must disappoint many season ticket holders.

About 75 percent of all seats in De Adelaarshorst are taken by season ticket holders, so that the cabinet decision to open the stadiums to one third capacity can count on little understanding. “We continue to insist on at least two-thirds occupancy of our stadium. It is a difficult decision and that is why we as a club wanted to create support by testing it,” says Van Dop in conversation with The Stentor.

Go Ahead has therefore asked the supporters what they think of the matter. “We polled the opinions via the SV, a poll was held via the Matchday. This was rolled out there,” said Van Dop. “If the current measure remains in place, De Adelaarshorst will not open. End of discussion. Although I would like to emphasize that we have not yet made a decision, this is a statement. We will not make a final decision until the middle of next week.”

“The clubs often agree in a joint meeting, but in the end they go for themselves and choose their own path. It’s a shame. I’m curious how the other clubs approach this issue around the supporters next weekend. Clubs like NAC and De Graafschap are also against the measure and, like us, cannot admit all season ticket holders,” concludes Van Dop.
