Second-class Wigan is heading for bankruptcy football England

In 2013 Wigan celebrated another of the highlights of his club history. Under the leadership of current Belgian national team coach Roberto Martinez, it captured the FA Cup.

But that season, Wigan also relegated from the Premier League, which marked the start of a ramble for Wigan through the lower classes. Since 2018, the club has played in the Championship again, but the club now also threatens to drop out due to a mandatory points deduction (-12 points), if Wigan does not completely cease to exist.

Because Wigan has now asked for protection against his creditors, which is a first step towards a possible bankruptcy. That is special, because less than a month ago, the club announced a new owner with Hong Kong businessman Au Yeung Wai Kay.

But now the club is looking for investors to stay alive. Among other things, Wigan points to the corona outbreak as the cause of this sudden financial downturn.
