Second chance for the local film festival – Wasserburg voice – the first online newspaper only for the city and the old district of Wasserburg

Main and Finance Committee: “Biennale Bavaria International” is to take place again in Wasserburg

Home was the big topic in several surrounding towns last September. The film festival “Biennale Bavaria International” could finally take place – but “did not bring the hoped-for resounding success”, according to Mayor Michael Kölbl. In its most recent meeting, the main and finance committee in Wasserburg voted on renewed funding and participation.

With a new concept, those involved in the film festival from April 26 to 30, 2023 want to start a new attempt. With the Bavarian Television and the University of Film and Television, there will be highlight events at every festival location. Even special guests from the film industry “are certain magnets”, according to the head of the town hall. In addition, the schools should be more involved.

The big sponsors are already on board, only Haag is suspending its participation in the film festival for the time being (we reported). Now Wasserburg has to decide whether the city wants to take part again. The costs of one euro per inhabitant amount to exactly 12,662 euros.

money that Wolfgang Janeczka (SPD) feels better off in the culture of the region. He had already feared that the film festival would not be so well received, and that has now been confirmed. “You only have to look at the number of visitors.” He assumes that even a new attempt will not bring the desired success. “There are projects on site and in the area that you can support instead,” he emphasized.

The aim of the “Biennale Bavaria International”, which takes place in Altötting, Burghausen and Mühldorf in addition to Wasserburg, is not only culture but also tourism and marketing, as Mayor Kölbl emphasized. This is intended to “gain supra-regional importance for the south-eastern Bavarian region”.

“The starting conditions were extremely bad last year,” found Werner Gartner (SPD) and want to try again. “It would have deserved another chance.” The decisive factor for this is to check “what went well and where it could go better”.

Wasserburg should be better included. That also required Heike Maas (CSU). Relevant events should come to the city “so that our own people benefit from it”.

Ultimately, the main and finance committee decided with just one dissenting vote to take part in the film festival again and to host the second “Biennale Bavaria International” in Wasserburg next year.
