SEC Provides Recommendations for Safe Use of Gas to Minimize Dangerous Situations in Homes

In order to minimize dangerous situations inside homes, the Los Ríos Regional Directorate of the Superintendence of Electricity and Fuels, SEC, delivered several recommendations to the public for the safe use of gas.

The foregoing, after an explosion registered on July 5, which affected a cabin on Errázuriz street, in the city of Valdivia, where there was a gas installation that did not have its OK Green Seal, resulting in one person being injured and significant damage. in the house.

The regional director of SEC Los Ríos, Osmán Obreque, explained that current regulations establish that property owners, where there are internal gas networks, must keep themselves in good condition, as well as their gas appliances.

“It is mandatory to have the Green OK Seal, a badge that certifies that its operation is safe. This, with the purpose of reducing risk situations in homes, such as explosions due to gas accumulation or episodes linked to the inhalation of carbon monoxide that can lead to fatal consequences”, he pointed out.

In addition, the regional director stressed that in the case of making any changes or repairs in the internal gas networks, the work must be carried out by installers authorized by the SEC.

“To start the process of obtaining the OK Green Seal, you can enter the website www.sec.cl/sello-verde-ok/, where a form will be displayed. After completing it, the information will be sent to an External Certification Body, authorized by the SEC, which will contact the person concerned,” added Obreque.

From SEC they add that after the inspection, it is possible to obtain one of the three seals: the Green one, which is the one that certifies that the gas installations are safe; Yellow, which indicates that they have serious deficiencies that must be repaired in the short term; or Red, which indicates potentially dangerous installations. In these last two cases, the repair must be managed on the networks by an installer authorized by the SEC.
