It had been known for some time that Sebastian Vettel would leave Ferrari at the end of the season. Only it was not yet clear whether there would still be a place for the German in Formula 1, because several vacant seats were already filled.
But the four-time world champion has found shelter after all. The ambitious Aston Martin, which will take over Racing Point after this season, has seduced Vettel with a multi-year contract.
“We are delighted to announce the arrival of Sebastian Vettel,” the team said. “This is a clear statement of our ambitions. We want to make our mark in this sport. With Sebastian we are bringing in someone who knows what it is to compete at the highest level.”
Sebastian Vettel: “I am extremely proud to be able to drive for Aston Martin from 2021. It is a new adventure at a legendary car brand. I am convinced that the future looks bright.”
Racing Point is a pleasant surprise in Formula 1 this season. The team is currently ranked 4th in the World Championship for constructors. Last weekend it had a podium place in a GP with Lance Stroll (3rd) for the first time in 2 years. Perez will leave the team after this season. Vettel will be succeeded at Ferrari by Carlos Sainz Jr.
