29 years have passed. Now Sebastian Samuelsson wants to be in the top three in the overall world cup. – It attracts, he says.
Sebastian Samuelsson has had a brilliant season in the men’s world cup, and has really hit top places in the overall compilation. Samuelsson has long been a stable shooter, but this winter has taken great strides in his riding, which has led to more top places.
Can be the first in 29 years
There were admittedly no medals during the Olympics, which was a miscalculation, but when he sums up the season, there are still joys, and he also has the chance to break a long, dark trend for Sweden.
It was namely 29 (!) Years since a Swedish gentleman last came in the top three in the overall World Cup, and now Samuelsson wants to break the trend.
– It is clear that there is some money as well, but it does not make much difference if you are second, third, fourth or fifth. It’s more prestige. We have not had any Swedish men on the podium in the overall World Cup since Micke Löfgren in the 1990s. It attracts a little. The World Cup is very important for us biathletes, says Samuelsson SVT.
“Would like to do it”
Ahead of the final five competitions for the season, Samuelsson is third. He has too far up to dominant Quentin Fillon Maillet, but second place is only 40 points away.
– I will really fight for that. There are five competitions left and you notice that people start to get tired at the end of the season. It would have been fun if I could beat him, absolutely, he says.
And considering how the Olympics took place, and what status the World Cup actually has in biathlon, it is a motivated Samuelsson who ends the season.
– I would very much like to find a podium there. It would have meant a lot, he says.
