NOVE MESTO. Wolfgang Pichler’s performance in SVT provoked reactions.
Now Sebastian Samuelsson reveals that the former demon coach called him and explained himself.
– It was a short conversation, says Samuelsson.
Wolfgang Pichler, 69, was not gracious in his criticism of the Swedish national biathlon team when he visited SVT’s studio during yesterday’s single mixed relay.
The former national team captain delivered boot after boot and called most of it a “disaster”, which caused, among others, Sebastian Samuelsson to react.
– I don’t know if he’s joking or not, said Samuelsson.
Now he reveals that Pichler called him to explain his actions.
– He has called me twice so I actually spoke to him a little quickly.
What was said?
– He pretty much explained what he meant during his studio stay yesterday. I haven’t seen much, only parts of it and it’s easy for things to be taken out of context…
Is it a dick to us evening papers?
– You would like to have your headlines, so you choose what you bring. It easily happens that it is the most pointed things that are brought along, says Samuelsson.

“No excuse”
It wasn’t an apology Wolfgang Pichler wanted to convey to Sebastian Samuelsson & Co, but more of an explanation for why he said what he said.
– He just wanted to explain himself. He didn’t apologize.
What did you say?
– Not so much. I did question some of the things he said and he tried to explain himself. We only talked for a minute or two. It was a short conversation, says Samuelsson.
Sweden’s head coach Johannes Lukas said yesterday that “if Wolfgang wants something, he can call me”.
So…has he called?
– No comments, says Lukas.
