Sebastián Mora will contest the Champions League. No, it’s not that he changed the bicycle for the soccer ball, but that he is, at the same time, claim and contend for the victory of the second edition of the UCI Track Champions League, a circuit that will start this Saturday in Palma de Mallorca and will end with the double appointment (fourth round and final) on 2 and 3 December in London. Sebas was second in 2021, only beaten by the American Gavin Hoover.
The format of this innovative track cycling competition is divided into sprint and endurance tests, in a total of four agile races. This new installment takes place in five events in four countries; and each meeting is condensed into a program of only two hours.
The championship boils down to the two most exciting sprint formats: keirin (the two fastest riders of the three rounds will qualify for the last six) e sprint (Three heats of drivers culminate in a head-to-head final.) Referring to resistenceit is condensed in the two most colorful tests and with all the riders competing at the same time: race to the scratch (shorter and faster version than the one disputed in other quotes) e elimination competition (one eliminated every two laps until there is only one left).
Drivers score points in every race for their position. The results are counted in the respective leagues, leaving two champions (sprint and endurance).
Dates and places of the second edition
The UCI Track Champions League starts on Saturday at the Velòdrom Illes Balears in Palma; and then it will go to the Berlin Velodrome (19th), Saint Quentin en Yvelines in Paris (26th); and reading London’s Valley Velopark (2nd December), same venue as the final, the next day.
The Spaniards and the distribution of evidence
Sebastián Mora will be the main Spanish representative in the resistance category, with 18 participants (another 18 in the sprint). Martorell will also be with him; while, in the female version, Tania Calvo will compete. Helena Casas will be the only Spaniard in sprint mode.
