Sebastian Eide’s Ruptured Appendix: The Untold Story of “Farmen” Participant

For several days, die-hard “Farmen” viewers have seen that one of the participants, Sebastian Eide (33), has been lying flat, without him having been able to contribute anything to the work on the farm.

– Love at first sight

It started as a form of constipation, but the pain gradually got stronger and stronger. In Wednesday’s episode it really came to a head, when the 33-year-old broker from Sotra suffered such severe pain that he saw no other choice but to demand that the others on the farm call 113.

Not long afterwards he was taken out of the farm by paramedics and sent by ambulance to the emergency department in Kristiansand.

Ruptured appendix

To Dagbladet, Eide does not hide that the last few days on the farm were an ever-so-small nightmare.

– That was shit! On TV it seems as if all this happened in a day or two, but when I was at the market as a large farmer last week, I hadn’t eaten for two or three days even then, he says.

Crying out after “The Farm”

What had befallen the “Farmen” participant, and which some at one point thought was a game for the gallery, was far more serious than it appeared.

At the hospital, they found out that Eide was walking with a ruptured appendix – something that never appeared on TV. After several tests, including an X-ray, he was then taken to the operating room at midnight the same day.

– Totally awesome

Thus, it was completely impossible for him to continue his “Farmen” stay.

He explains the process:

– When the appendix burst, I actually don’t think I had eaten properly for seven days. I had zero energy. I was in insanely bad shape for a good period, and eventually a lump appeared on the right side of my stomach, and if you touched it, it hurt quite a bit.

Death on the “Farm”: – Heartbreaking

It was the last day on the farm that he noticed that the situation was unlivable.

– I was lying in bed there, on the top floor, stretched, and suddenly felt an absolutely insane pain – and thought that I just had to get down and not lie there alone.

Viewers rave about this

– But I felt that I was about to pass out and pushed myself down into the fetal position. In the end, Yassin (El Barkani, 31, editor’s note) got me downstairs, so I got to lie down there. I can hardly even imagine today how intense that pain was. It was absolutely awesome.

Changes: “The Farm” is finally back, but this time major changes have been made to the programme! The episode is available on TV 2 Play. Video: Red Runner / TV 2. Show more

Was in hospital for a week

The participants in the TV 2 program have access to a walkie-talkie on which they can call a guard if something dramatic should happen.

On this day it was put into use.

This is TV 2’s reply after changes

– Then and there I think I realized that the appendix had ruptured. So I asked them to call an ambulance right away, I was completely confused about what the guard and the production were thinking or thinking. A lifeboat, I think it was, transported me over to Søgne, where an ambulance was waiting. Then it was off to the emergency department.

There, Eide, as he says himself, “fortunately received a bit of anesthesia”, before he was told that “the appendix had to come out”.

– I wasn’t scared or anything, it just hurt like hell.

But unfortunately the problems did not stop there. Actually, he was going through a simple peephole operation, basically a fairly simple process.

That time no.

– In some cases, the intestines lie above the appendix, which leads to a significantly larger operation to remove it. Of course, that’s how it was with me. Normally I should be able to leave the hospital the next day, but I had to stay there for a week.

– I am furious at TV 2

– Never experienced the makan

In his 33-year life, Eide has never before experienced pain on the scale he experienced at Fredheim farm.

– No, I have never experienced the makan. It was something completely different from anything I’ve known, so I realized that this was serious. And with pain like that you have to be pretty stupid not to go to hospital in my book. At the end there I have a low pulse and a real drop in blood pressure as well.

On TV, it is quite clear that even the production moved away from the illusion of a life a hundred years back in time when the participants, Eide included, called the emergency center from a mobile phone.

Naturally not so nice, he thinks himself.

Lured TV 2 rolling around: – Shocked

– If there is one thing they are concerned about at “The Farm”, it is the safety of the participants. This was no longer a TV show, but bloody seriousness.

– Whose phone did you call from then?

– I’m guessing it was the guard’s phone. Or one in production. The crew also has a telephone, if something were to happen, Sebastian Eide tells Dagbladet.

TV 2: – Follow him closely

To Dagbladet, press manager at TV 2, Jan-Petter Dahl, says that Eide was given medication when the “Farmen” doctor visited a few days before.

Fires up during the romance rumours

– Since his condition deteriorated sharply, it was decided to call 113. When it comes to life and health, it is more important than preserving the illusion of farm life in 1932. The other participants were therefore allowed to use a telephone from the production, he admits.

Dahl continues:

– The ambulance personnel were on board the boat that transported Sebastian from the island, and took him on to the emergency department at the hospital in Kristiansand. We always want the participants to recover quickly enough to be able to return to the farm, but Sebastian was clear himself that he was too ill for that to happen. He himself made the final decision at the hospital.

Got “The Farm” refused by NRK

He says that the production followed and was with the appendicitis participant in the hospital.

– He has since been followed up closely from production until today. We are all incredibly happy that he has fully recovered, says TV 2’s press manager, Jan-Petter Dahl, to Dagbladet.
