The Washington Commanders are looking for a new quarterback, but apparently the Seattle Seahawks turned down their courtship for Russell Wilson.
This is reported by Ian Rapoport from NFL Network. Accordingly, the Commanders are said to have offered several first-round picks for Wilson. However, Wilson is not for sale.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said earlier this week they have “no intention” of letting the eight-time pro bowler go.
The Commanders, on the other hand, made no secret of the fact that they were looking for a new QB these days. According to Rapoport, they are very active and have already asked several teams about possible trades. The draft is also an option, given the rather low quality of this QB class, an experienced NFL professional is probably preferred.
“This year we’re being very proactive and looking around,” Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said Tuesday on the sidelines of the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. “Who’s trying to think of everything. Whenever we hear anything, we ask questions. So we have to do our homework and be careful.”
Washington, who holds the eleventh pick in the draft, has been looking for the quarterback of the future for a long time. Since the serious leg injury to the now-retired Alex Smith, they’ve tried several interim solutions, including Kyle Allen, Ryan Fitzpatrick – injured early last season – and most recently Taylor Heinicke. None, however, was completely convincing over a longer period of time.
