The Seattle Kraken suffered a blow in Game 4 against the Colorado Avalanche when their top scorer, Jared McCann, was injured in the first period following a hit from Avalanche defenceman Cale Makar. McCann was down on the ice for several minutes before being helped to the bench and taken to the locker room. Although there was no official announcement about his injury, the player did not return for the second period. In the regular season, McCann led Seattle with a remarkable 40 goals and 70 points. Despite his absence, Seattle managed to score on the ensuing power play and take a 2-0 lead. Makar was initially penalized with a five-minute major penalty for the hit, but it was later reduced to a two-minute minor on review.
