“SEAT Plans to Stop Car Production After 2030 in Response to EU Ban on Internal Combustion Engines”

The Spanish brand SEAT plans to stop the production of new cars after 2030, completely changing its direction of development. This was reported by the Autocar website, citing company information.

Currently, SEAT’s only electric vehicle is the Mo scooter. The brand is also considering the launch of other “mobility solutions”, including ride-sharing microcars and bicycles.

The decision of the Spanish brand is directly related to the ban on the sale of new cars with internal combustion engines from 2035 in the European Union. Until 2030, however, SEAT will continue to produce cars.

The modernized microcar SEAT Minimo, which is a version of the Renault Twizy, should become one of the first new projects under the brand’s new strategy. The launch of the model was delayed due to the pandemic, but now the management has given the “green light”.

SEAT boss Wayne Griffiths says SEAT will not produce electric cars until at least 2026. However, the Cupra sub-brand will produce electric models of conventional cars.
