According to the boss of Seat, the brand does not plan to switch to 100% electric at all. A surprising decision, against the trend.
No manufacturer will cut it: from 2035, it will be strictly forbidden to sell thermal cars throughout the European Union. A decision officially endorsed by Brussels, which is obviously not unanimous among manufacturers. Although many are ready for this deadline, this is not the case for everyone. And many of them cringe. We think in particular of Toyota, but not only, since a European brand is also concerned. It is Seatwho is not really enthusiastic about the idea of the end of heat engines in the next few years.

Not for now
For now, there is no electric model in its range, while the Mii has bowed out for some time now. Customers should therefore turn to Cupra, which offers a Born with no equivalent at Seat. Is this really a problem? Not in the least for the builder’s boss, Wayne Griffiths. Because for him, electricity is absolutely not a priority, as he reveals in an interview with our colleagues from Caradisiac. And the latter does not mince his words, affirming that he ” there is a future for gasoline-powered cars.” According to him, “we are going to sell it for at least 10 years« .

No electric compact
The leader also explains his point of view, saying that Seat remains ” an entry into the Volkswagen group, a brand aimed more at younger customers“. However, the latter would not be interested in the electric. The boss also closes the door to a rival of the ID.2all concept, stating bluntly that “there will be no electric Seat Ibiza“. This at least has the merit of leaving no doubt. The manufacturer will still have to act, because he is currently losing a lot of money unlike Cupra which works very well.
