“For me, this was a season full of great musical adventures, and at the end of it, I have the feeling that I have gotten to know the musicians of the orchestra much more closely, the feeling of their ensemble, the always emotional depth of music making,” conductor Guntis Kuzma evaluates the season.
Kuzma also emphasizes the excellent working conditions for the orchestra in the concert hall Big Amberincluding playing from the pit, which musicians and listeners could witness in Hector Berlioz’s opera The destruction of Faust in a performance last October.
“There were many meetings with wonderful stage partners and friends in music, of which Iveta Apkalna, Kristini Balanas, Andreja Osokina, Risto Jost. I still hear the sparkling silver voice of Beata Zviedre in the New Year’s program, the tone of Daniil Bulajev’s violin in the Mendelssohn concert, Reiņas Zariņš’s catch Mediņš’s concert and Christian Lindberg’s unusual, bright reading of Sibelius’s Second Symphony,” says Kuzma.
The chief conductor of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra expresses special satisfaction about the critically acclaimed album of Jura Karlsson’s symphonic music Dances of life and death and for the premieres: the triple concerts of Artur Maskats and Kārļis Vanags, as well as Ilona Brega’s Fourth Symphony.
The opening concert of the 142nd concert season of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra attracted a lot of attention – it won the prestigious Latvian Public Media Annual Award in Culture A kilogram of culture.
The artistic director of the orchestra, Guntis Kuzma, plans to end the season just as powerfully, by including two musical highlights of the early 20th century in the concert program – Richard Strauss’s symphonic poem Makbets and Sergei Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto with pianist Anton Lyakhovsky’s solo.
The concert can also be heard live on Latvian Radio 3.
The concert season is coming to an end, and the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra invites its listeners to enjoy the summer, of course, not forgetting the unique presence of music in refreshing the soul.
