Fitzpatrick, 39, signed a one-year deal with Washington last season after initiating a late career renaissance with two engagements with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Miami Dolphins.
Fitzpatrick said in March that he would consider stepping down if he couldn’t secure a starting role or at least a chance at a number 1 job.
