Searches in the “Sardinia case” in a Cologne doctor’s office

The controversial vaccination campaign in Munich by more than 100 employees of an Italian holiday resort in Sardinia has now also led the police to Cologne: On Thursday, investigators searched a doctor’s office and a pharmacy here. It is about the suspicion of bribery in the health care system and the embezzlement of vaccines, said Matthias Held from the Attorney General in Nuremberg. A total of seven suspects are being investigated: pharmacists, doctors and a lawyer. There were searches in Munich as early as mid-June.

The Cologne doctor is said to have been one of those doctors who are said to have injected the hotel employee with the vaccine against the corona virus six weeks ago at Munich Airport. The hotel employees who flew back to Sardinia after a short stay were apparently not entitled to vaccinate in Germany.

Markus Söder strongly condemned the vaccination campaign

Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) had condemned the action. Such cases shouldn’t pile up, he said. There are enough people who are still waiting for a vaccination. “That has to be clarified and rules have to be provided so that it does not happen again.” It has not yet been clarified where the vaccine used came from – but at least “according to previous investigations not from Cologne,” said Senior Public Prosecutor Held. Also the Bavarian Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians is investigating the case by its own account.

A manager of the luxury hotel had told Italy’s public television broadcaster Rai 3 that it was important that the resort was ready so that guests could vacation there safely. The first “stage” was taken, as vaccinations for employees in companies were not yet possible in Italy. The hotel also paid for this service.

A doctor who is said to have administered the vaccinations also said in an interview with Rai 3 that the German government was involved in the organization. However, the Federal Ministry of Health immediately rejected the statements, as reported by “Spiegel” and the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”.
