The total number of victims has risen to 24, and the whereabouts of 9 people are unknown. The search and rescue work began at 8:00 on the 18th. There were more than 100 search and rescue personnel at the scene. The authorities sent forklifts, bulldozers and 9 search and rescue dogs and for the first time they used ground-penetrating radar provided by the Land Survey Bureau to intensify the search for possible survivors.

As more than 60 hours have passed since the crash, the chances of the missing persons surviving have become increasingly slim. According to current official reports, among the 24 known victims, 11 were teachers, staff and students of the local primary school, including 6 teachers, 3 students and 2 canteen employees.

The cause of the crash has yet to be further investigated. Earlier, Malaysian Environment Ministry officials said preliminary observations showed the landslide may have been caused by changes in groundwater level caused by rainy days, embankment instability near the campsite and the collapse of the ground above .
