The CISSSMC Research Department is responsible for all research carried out within the establishment, which has two research centers.
Charles-Le Moyne Research Center (CRCLM)
The CRCLM is led by Professor Dominique Tremblay and brings together 35 regular researchers based at the Longueuil Campus of the University of Sherbrooke and nearly 40 physicians involved in clinical research at the HCLM. The shared vision of the CRCLM researchers and partners is to transform communities through a pragmatic approach of proximity to individuals and organizations.
The research work targets both the person (the patient, the user, the clinician, the manager) and their environment (family, loved ones, people in the workplace) as well as the health system and is deployed under two major interdependent and complementary axes:
- research on health life trajectories: prevention and treatment which focuses more on the individual;
- research on policies, organization and evaluation of health systems.
At the CRCLM, research is pragmatic, interdisciplinary, evaluative and clinical; it serves as a transmission belt between the two axes, using a diversity of methods in different fields of research.

Program Objectives
With a total budget of $450 million, the program has two objectives:
- on a priority basis, provide salary support to universities and health research institutions, which are not eligible for the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, to help them retain their research staff during the COVID-19 pandemic;
- provide support for the extraordinary additional costs associated with maintaining essential research commitments during the COVID-19 pandemic and resuming full-scale research activities once physical distancing measures are eased and research activities can resume.

Interdisciplinary Research Center in Rehabilitation (CRIR) of Metropolitan Montreal–INLB Site
The Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Rehabilitation (CRIR) of Metropolitan Montreal–INLB Site is the largest rehabilitation research centre in Canada. It has over 90 regular researchers, including five who specialize in the field of visual impairment, over 400 graduate students and over 100 clinicians. The INLB of the CISSS de la Montérégie-Centre is one of the six founding institutions of the CRIR, created in 2000.

Clinical research at HCLM
Clinical research projects and pharmaceutical trials mobilize around forty clinical researchers within three teams.
Clinical trials provide early access to new, cutting-edge drugs that can extend or greatly improve the quality of life.

Varied research environments
The research projects carried out at the CISSS de la Montérégie-Centre are mainly carried out at the Charles-Le Moyne Hospital, the Longueuil Campus of the University of Sherbrooke and the INLB, but can also be carried out at other CISSSMC facilities.
