The “most mysterious song on the internet” is probably no longer mysterious. The song that the music magazine also wrote about RollingStone A long article written in 2019 apparently comes from the German band FEX and is titled ‘Subways Of the Mind’. The search for the origin of the song had kept music fans from all over the world in suspense for over 17 years. The piece is, among other things, from the popular Doom mod MyHouse.wad known. There is a sound coming from the radio of a parked car. The band FEX hasn’t existed for a long time. However, the original members may get together again to record the song again.
The search goes back to 2007. At that time, a young lady posted an excerpt from the song on the Internet because she wanted to find out its origins. Her brother had recorded the song from the radio himself, but couldn’t remember the name of the band or which show the song was on. However, he suspected that it was the show “Music for Young People” that ran on NDR in the 1980s.

For 12 years the search made little progress. In 2019 the song got new momentum Reddit An entire subreddit with almost 60,000 members was formed. The breakthrough happened a few days ago. One of the users searched an old newspaper archive and stumbled across articles from the time, including about the Kiel band FEX. He contacted one of the members and asked for some of the band’s old material. And lo and behold: the song you were looking for was actually among them! Subsequently, other band members confirmed that the song was actually written by them. Although they haven’t seen each other for a while, they can definitely imagine getting together again to record the song again. And so one of the internet’s greatest searches comes to a happy ending.
