Search for missing Gino (9) continues

9-year-old Gino was last seen in a playground in Kerkrade on Wednesday evening between 19:30 and 20:30. He was carrying a black scooter with red handles. Because no explanation could be found for his disappearance, a great alarm was raised by means of a national Amber Alert.

This special means of investigation was used because the police suspect that the child is in mortal danger. A crime is taken into account.

The police report that an investigation shows that three children and a man were playing football on the playing field at the time of Gino’s disappearance. Police have already spoken to the children and are calling on the man to come forward.


Yesterday evening became a step found in Landgraaf, about 5 kilometers from the playground on Hertogenlaan and Zonstraat in Kerkrade, where the boy was last seen. Family told a reporter from RTL Nieuws that they think it is indeed Gino’s scooter.

Last night the police received support from a German team of specialists in their search.


It concerns Medical Service NRW, specialized in searching for people and providing medical assistance. The group also has search dogs.

The police started an investigation and completely closed off the parking lot by the pool. Sniffer dogs were used.

A group of about eighty to ninety people searched in Landgraaf last night. Earlier in the evening they already searched Kerkrade. The volunteers stopped at about midnight, they say because they the police not at your feet wanted to walk.


The missing Gino is from Maastricht, but temporarily stayed with his 32-year-old sister Kelly because of his mother’s health problems. His other sister, Naomi (21), told RTL Nieuws yesterday. Kelly would soon be given custody of her brother.


Mayor Petra Dassen-Housen van Kerkrade responded to the search last night. In a tweet she spoke of ‘an incredibly difficult situation’ for the family, which she wished a lot of strength. “We hope from the bottom of our hearts for a good outcome.”
