Only a steel cable was found at the first search spot on Wednesday. On Friday it had to become clear what was in the second search spot, but due to setbacks, the denouement has to wait until Tuesday. The sand was difficult to remove there.
Hölskens stood on the bank of the lake every day watching the divers. “I have been there all week. Even if the red Fiat is not found next week, I will keep looking until I find it,” says Hölskens. “They are people we are looking for, not garbage.”
Someone who was also watching showed Hölskens a photo of a young Piet. “One of my grandsons looks exactly like Piet. Those are such important refreshed memories for me.”

The 21-year-old Martens and 22-year-old Hölskens got into a red Fiat 850 Coupé on March 16, 1974 at 3 a.m. after a visit to a pub in Deurne. They were never seen again after that and the car was never found.
There are speculations that the two friends were murdered because of a secret relationship Martens had with a married woman. He is said to have been lured to a deserted place in retaliation and killed there. Hölskens would have been killed because he witnessed it.
Hölskens has always believed that his brother is in the water of De Brink. “In the dark you can make a car disappear unseen in the black water. It is an ideal place to disappear.”
Next week he will be back on the bank when the search resumes. “I’ll find my brother and put his remains at my parents’ grave. I promised them that. They never got over his disappearance.”
