Search for meaning at work: why the French do not dare to retrain

For several years now, the question of meaning at work seems to be increasingly central. In a study carried out in December 2021 by the Audencia business school and the “Jobs that make sense” platform, 92% of respondents said they were looking for meaning . A result that is not intended to be representative “since the questionnaire was distributed via a platform, the respondents choosing to answer it or not”, admits Mélanie Dugué, Study & Research project manager at Andencia. But which is nevertheless indicative of a trend. In a new study, of which “Les Echos” reveals the results, the authors went to question the respondents to find out more about their motivations.

First lesson: even if many wish to exercise a job that would make more sense, they are ultimately quite few to take the plunge. Of the 92% who say they are in search of meaning, only 42% have undertaken a professional transition. A number of obstacles persist with, first and foremost, the potential loss of income, which worries 52% of respondents.
