He is said to have attacked banks in North Rhine-Westphalia 14 times. He also struck in the Soest district. Now the State Criminal Police Office is looking for the perpetrator with photos.
Lippstadt – On January 18, 2008, an unknown man struck the Sparkasse Lippstadt in Bad Waldliesborn. It was one of at least 14 acts that could be attributed to the unknown. The State Criminal Police Office (LKA) hopes to get decisive information about the perpetrator through the publication of photos. On Wednesday evening, the robbery series will be presented in the TV wanted program “Aktenzeichen XY” on ZDF.
In the broadcast on September 15, reference should be made to the still unresolved series of bank robberies that began on May 6, 1998. “At that time, an unknown robber attacked a branch of the Sparkasse Remscheid-Hasenberg,” said the State Criminal Police Office.

According to the investigators, the last known attack in this series should have occurred on January 16, 2020 in Rees on the Lower Rhine on the local Volksbank Emmerich-Rees. After an attack on September 25, 2015 in Düren-Lendersdorf, two phantom images of the perpetrator could be created through testimony.

But how does it come about that the investigators are now – after so many deeds have happened so many years ago – so aggressively looking for the man? Frank Scheulen, First Chief Detective Inspector at the State Criminal Police Office, explained: “We keep trying to find new clues in unexplained series with so many offenses. That is why we have listed the crime scenes so meticulously: Maybe someone will remember, ‘Man, I was there that day and something struck me as weird’. We hope for such clues. “
LKA is looking for serial bank robbers – are there no better pictures?
In addition to the two phantom images, the LKA also published images from a surveillance camera that showed the perpetrator – hidden under a hood – from the side. “It’s the only material we can publish. We need a judicial decision for every mug shot. We cannot simply publish everything we have in terms of material, ”said the LKA spokesman when asked whether there was no better image material when searching for the criminal.
Unknown robber wanted in file number XY: The perpetrator is said to have spied out banks for a long time
“It must be assumed that the perpetrator explored the individual objects of the crime for days before the crime, down to the smallest detail, possibly even for weeks,” according to the LKA.
Anyone who can provide information about the suspect depicted on the phantom images should report to the nearest police station. For clues that lead to the arrest of the perpetrator, several rewards totaling 36,500 euros are offered.
LKA emphasizes: “Do not speak to the suspect!”
The State Criminal Police Office emphasizes: “Since the person you are looking for may be armed, you should definitely notify the police and do not speak to the suspect!”

The current one description of the unknown perpetrator can currently be summarized as follows: The man is between 1.80 and 1.90 meters tall, between 50 and 65 years old. He very likely has blonde to light blonde hair and a strong to athletic stature. He is probably wearing glasses and has light, “cold” eyes. He is most likely German, possibly Rhinelander. His face is slightly furrowed and wrinkled. It has a roughly coarse, angular skin structure. Apparently he also has a good knowledge of electrical and key technology, door and window mechanics.
