– We search as long as there is hope of finding the missing person alive. And we still have hope for that.
This is what Knut Haarvik, spokesman for the Central Rescue Service in Northern Norway (HRS), says.
The police have now been in contact with the next of kin.
– We have set up a next-of-kin contact, and a crisis team has also been set up.
This is what operations manager for the Finnmark police district, Theodor Weberg Ellingsen, told NRK.
Removed from the search
A total of 19 vessels on land and in the air have participated in the search. Both rescue helicopters have now been grounded, and several smaller vessels have docked. The Norwegian Armed Forces’ maritime patrol plane, the P8 Poseidon, has also now been taken out of the search.
– The crew of the rescue helicopters and the patrol plane need rest. But we still have the coast guard ship Farm in search, along with seven other larger private boats, says Haarvik.
At around 11.20am on Tuesday, HRS received an emergency call via VHF from a vessel on the Lopphavet.
– It gradually emerged that it was a “man overboard” situation. We now have a search for a missing fisherman.
This is what Tor Erik Torkelsen at HRS tells us.
He confirms that they have launched a search for a fisherman who has fallen overboard from a fishing boat.
The lifeboat Klaveness Marine is participating in the search for the man who fell overboard off the coast of Loppa in Finnmark. Here, the crew has taken a photo of one of the other boats that is also participating in the search.

There were two people on board the boat. It was the missing person’s colleague who alerted the emergency services.
– His health is now taken care of, says Thomas Ringen at the Central Rescue Center in Northern Norway.
What has happened is currently unclear.

Several participated in the search
Rescue helicopters from Banak and Tromsø have participated in the search from the air.
The Danish Armed Forces’ maritime patrol aircraft, P8 Poseidon, and the coast guard ship Farm are also taking part in the search for the man overboard situation in the Lopphavet, HRS reported shortly after 2 p.m.
In addition, two lifeboats have been sent from Hasvik and Skjervøy. Both of these are still in the search.
– Several local vessels also take part, says Torkelsen.
This applies to local ferries and speedboats.
The search for a missing fisherman is ongoing in the coastal area off Sørøya in Finnmark.
Boreal reports that their ferries that run between Loppa and Sørøya this afternoon will be delayed, because they are participating in the search.
– MF Bergsfjord reports that they are temporarily withdrawing from the route due to participation in rescue operations today, Tuesday. This could cause delays throughout the day. New information will come at 14.00, Boreal writes on its website.
MF Bregsfjord has now been put into normal route production.
Unknown cause
According to the weather service YR, it is light breeze in the area, and clear weather. Tor Erik Torkelsen in HRS says they currently do not know what has happened.
– We do not know the circumstances of the incident.
He says the search for the missing fisherman continues at full strength.
The main rescue center in Northern Norway is coordinating the search.
RS Klaveness Marine is involved in the search outside Sørøya. The lifeboat is one of several vessels that went straight to the area when the “man overboard” message came in.
