Search and rescue teams rush to shore after a person is spotted on the dock

Emergency services were called to the Port of Liverpool after receiving reports of a person in distress.

In the early hours of Thursday, a response unit that included search and rescue teams and a marine rescue unit attended the scene at St Nicholas Place.

The Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said a person was seen near the Liver Building near the pier at around 1.44 a.m.

Officers were able to move the person and the emergency service stopped at 2.21 a.m.

A Merseyside fire Rescue spokesperson told ECHO: “We were called last night at St. Nicholas Place L3, following reports of a person in distress near the Liver Building near the pier.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue The Service (MFRS) was alerted at 1.44 am and on site at 1.53 pm.

“Two fire trucks, the search and rescue team and the Marine Rescue Unit aboard the rescue boat Marine Fire One were at the scene.

“After the person moved out of the area, other colleagues from the emergency service informed us that we could leave because our services were no longer needed.

“MFRS were on scene until 2.21 a. M. ”
