GENT –

Batughan Kolcu and Kadir Karadag knew that Seapoint was going to be a success, but they didn’t expect it to explode. About a month after the opening, they closed their doors because the fish restaurant was doing too well.

Every resident of Ghent knows the fish shop Zuiver op de Graat and every resident of Ledeberg knows the bakery and tea room Aktief. Their owners, Batughan Kolcu (37) and Kadir Karadag (28), have known each other since childhood. A collaboration has been a long time coming.

About a month ago they proudly opened a fish restaurant on Ledebergplein, with fish from Zuiver op de Graat and bread from the Aktief bakery. The guests could put together their own meal, from the fish to the sauce.

“It was a success from the start,” says Kolcu. “The restaurant was packed almost every day. It went so well that it was no longer possible to combine it.”

So the friends decided to close Seapoint. Kolcu will transfer the concept to his fish shop in Gentbrugge. Preparations are in full swing. “The formula will be the same as in Ledeberg,” he says. “You will still be able to put together your own fish, vegetables and sauce. You will also be able to order wine or bubbles, lobsters, langoustines and other novelties that were not there before.”
