A relative of an Irish family who lost almost all their members in a car crash in Devon in 2012 is to scale a steep hill 200 times to raise funds for medical services and road safety improvements. Sean Twomey, whose cousin Elber Twomey’s husband, 16-month-old son and unborn child were killed in the crash caused by a suicidal driver, will make the climb dressed as a pirate. Twomey will donate the money raised to Torbay Hospital, which treated Elber after the accident. Elber Twomey, who led a campaign for road safety and awareness after the crash, has held the ‘Twomey Memorial Weekend’ every year for the past decade. The event, which last year raised €200,000 ($222,000) for good causes, will finish this year.
