For Sean Penn, the Ukrainian people are a symbol of courage and principle. The actor and director is working on a documentary in Kiev.
Los Angeles/Kiev – Oscar winner Sean Penn (61, “Mystic River”) has described the Russian attack on Ukraine as a “brutal mistake” that took lives and broke hearts.
“If he doesn’t back down, I believe Mr. Putin will have made a terrible mistake for all of humanity,” Penn wrote in a statement.
Penn is working in Kiev on a documentary about the Ukraine war. Ukraine’s presidential office said on Facebook that it wanted to record events in Ukraine to “show the world the truth about Russia’s invasion.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared a video on Instagram in which he talked to Penn.
Penn went on to say in the statement: “President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people have become historic symbols of courage and principles.” Ukraine is the spearhead of the democratic ideal of dreams and hopes. “If we allow her to fight alone, our soul as America is lost.”
