Sean Penn Plans to Make a Film about Georgian Legion Fighting on Ukraine’s Side

American actor and cinematographer Sean Penn has announced that he plans to make a film about the Georgian Legion, which is fighting on the side of Ukraine against Russia, the news website “News Georgia” reported on Monday.

Penn participated in the ZEG Storytelling Festival in Tbilisi, where he talked about his film “Superpower”, which tells about Russia’s war against Ukraine, and mentioned the connection between Georgia and Ukraine.

“There is no Ukraine without Georgia. As an American, I realized that Ukraine also gave me Georgia,” said Penn.

“The Georgian people are the strength of Georgia, just like the Ukrainian people are the strength of Ukraine, and I hope that we in the United States will remember that. (..) your history is not so difficult to tell, and we should help tell it in a film. (..) the truth for Georgia is more powerful than any weapon,” Penn said.

He added that he plans to make a documentary about Georgians fighting on the side of Ukraine.

Mamuka Mamulashvili, commander of the Georgian Legion, announced that the shooting of this film is expected to begin in August this year.

In response to a question about the Georgian government’s pro-Russian sentiment, Penn noted that “the truth is on the side of the opposition.”
