Sean Penn in Kiev for documentary on Russian invasion: “He shows the courage that Western politicians lack” | War Ukraine and Russia

Photos show Penn, wearing sunglasses, sitting front row at a press conference of Ukrainian government officials. Vice Studios confirms to Variety that it is indeed about the filmmaker. The studio is co-producing the film with Vice World News and Endeavor Content.

Penn visited the president’s office this week and spoke with President Volodymyr Zelensky and Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk. He attended a press conference at the presidential office in Kiev on Thursday. “Sean Penn shows the courage that many others, especially Western politicians, lack,” the president’s office wrote on Facebook. “The director came to Kiev especially to capture all the events currently taking place in Ukraine and to tell the world the truth about the Russian invasion of our country.”

Sean Penn was also in Ukraine in November. Then he paid a visit to the Ukrainian army. The Oscar winner has supported numerous international humanitarian and anti-war efforts over the years and founded the non-profit disaster relief organization CORE in response to the earthquakes in Haiti in 2010. He captured this in the documentary ‘Citizen Penn’.
