Sean Dyche unleashed hell on Charlie Austin for ‘stupid’ dance celebration in Burnley and forced him to watch it on repeat

There’s a reason Charlie Austin keeps it simple when he celebrates – all because of the wrath of Burnley manager Sean Dyche.

You won’t catch the Queens Park Rangers hero doing some sort of choreographed routine, having been forced to learn the hard way during his time under the Clarets boss.

In 2013, with Burnley fighting for promotion to the Premier League with Austin up front, they traveled to Bolton for a clash that still haunts the striker to this day.

David Edgar’s overture sparked what Austin can only describe as a “dumb dance” to celebrate – and the top-flight Clarets had reason to be confident after taking the lead over their local rivals, who were threatened with relegation at the time.

But the football gods are famous for punishing such a show of pretension, and true to form Burnley was played out of the park in the second half and lost 2-1.

For Dyche, the Premier League’s most virulent nonsense opponent, it was clear where the game had been lost.

It was nothing tactical or technical; it was the direct result of that silly little dance of the first half.

“We played Bolton away and David Edgar scored to put us 1-0 in the first half,” Austin, 31, recalled on talkSPORT.

“We ran around the corner and did a stupid dance. It was great, thinking we were going to beat Bolton.

“In the second half they beat us and scored two goals to win 2-1.

“Monday morning we came for the analysis and the only thing that was there, replaying, was our goal celebration.

“He went mad: ‘What was that !? You don’t see the best clubs doing this! You are a shame! I never want to see this again!

“I was thinking, ‘Oh my Lord. It would have been nice if we had won, but we were a mess in the second half.
