Athlone, Ireland mourns the loss of Sean Dunning, a beloved member of the community, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, at Ferbane Nursing Home. Surrounded by his loving family, Sean’s passing marks the end of a life well-lived.
Born and raised in Athlone, Sean was a familiar face to many.He was known for his warm smile, kind heart, and dedication to his family and community. Sean was a accomplished butcher, owning and operating Dunnings Butcher’s on Connaught Street, a local institution cherished by generations.
Sean is predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Kathleen, and his brother, Paddy. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Breda, and a large and loving family, including brothers Tommy, Bernie, and Michael, and sisters Mary, anne, Helen, and Kathleen. Sean’s memory will also be cherished by his many brothers-in-law,sisters-in-law,nephews,nieces,relatives,and friends.
Sean’s remains will repose at his sister Mary Dunne’s residence in Carrickobrien on Friday from 2 pm to 7 pm, offering an opportunity for friends and family to pay their respects and share memories. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday morning at 10 am in St. Mary’s Church, followed by burial in Coosan cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to cancer research. Sean’s passing serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting organizations dedicated to finding a cure for this devastating disease.
