NEW YORK – Sean “Diddy” Combs will make his first appearance before the judge expected to preside over his trial on sex trafficking charges.

Combs will be brought to Manhattan federal court from a Brooklyn jail to appear Thursday afternoon before Judge Arun Subramanian.

The hearing is expected to follow dates for attorneys on both sides to present arguments that will set parameters for a trial that Combs’ attorneys want to begin in April or May. Prosecutors have not indicated a preference for when the trial might take place.

The judge was assigned to the case after another judge recused himself based on his previous contacts with lawyers on the case.

Combs, 54, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him last month. These charges include conspiracy to commit extortion and sex trafficking, based on allegations dating back to 2008.

His lawyers have tried unsuccessfully to get bail for the Bad Boy Records founder since his arrest on September 16.

Two judges have ruled that Combs is a danger to the community if released. At a bail hearing three weeks ago, a judge rejected a $50 million bail package, which included house arrest and electronic monitoring, after ruling that Combs posed a risk of tampering with witnesses and obstructing on continuous monitoring.

In an appeal of the bail decisions to the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Combs’ lawyers on Tuesday asked a panel of judges to overturn the bail decisions, saying the package would recommended bail “clearly stop him from being a threat to him. any person or contact witnesses.”

They urged the appeals court to overturn a trial judge’s rulings that they said “supported the government’s exaggerated rhetoric and ordered Mr. Combs to be detained.”
