“I’m not going to lie about that: the impact on myself and my close surroundings, the people I see most, very dearly, is really enormous,” said the presenter / musician. “Gigantic even. The way in which my privacy and that of others have been violated is downright degrading. The result was a hallucinatory snowball effect, set in motion by someone who found it necessary to maliciously distribute private images.
Not the intention
Dhondt admits that he made the images himself. “In my private sphere,” said Dhondt. “Something I should have thought about better, in retrospect. Because it was obviously not the intention that those images would circulate unsolicited. Because that is how they ended up with people who, against their will, were shown those images. And suddenly the wildest stories arose. That is why it is so important that this stops. ”
“I don’t wish anyone to be publicly humiliated in this way,” said Dhondt. “And of course you don’t want to do that. But, at the same time, I also realized very clearly that a safety net is very important at such times. Family, friends, colleagues here at Q and at VTM and far beyond… I can well imagine that people who do not have such a warm safety net around them or young people who are less resilient, will really go under as a result. And that is why I think it is necessary again to say something about it now. Because what happened to me now might help other people. ”
Be kind to eachother
Dhondt asks people who go through or have been through the same thing, just like people who know someone in the same situation, to “be nice to each other”. “Be aware of the dangers. How quickly something can happen, without even realizing it. I am now, unfortunately, a good example for saying that. Don’t laugh or tease each other. Because this is serious. People can use all the help in such a situation. ”
He mainly wants to rest now, he says. “To process this for myself and with the people around me, who matter most. It is so important that this stops. For everyone involved now. And for everyone who would experience it in the future. ”
Complaint
The nude photos and videos of three BVs have been circulating for two weeks. They are shared on websites and internet forums, via messaging services like WhatsApp and social media like TikTok. Stan Van Samang was the first to respond on Thursday and announced through his lawyers that he is filing a complaint against the person he believes is behind the distribution of the images. On Friday morning, Peter Van de Veire made himself heard on radio station MNM and asked to leave his family out.
Van de Veire also reiterated that sharing the nude images is punishable. Anyone caught can face a prison sentence.
