Sealed Super Mario 64 copy sold for over 13.5 million kroner

A copy of the Nintendo 64 game Super Mario 64 has just been sold at auction for 1,560,000 dollars – or about 13,567,000 kroner at today’s price. It reports Kotaku (via the auction website Heritage Auctions).

The price broke the previous auction record for a single game. The previous record was set just a few days ago, when a rare copy of The Legend of Zelda went for 7.5 million kroner.

Almost perfect condition

What raised the price for this particular Super Mario 64 edition was that the 25-year-old product was in near perfect condition. The website Wata Games – which evaluates collectibles from the gaming world – hit 9.8 out of 10 possible points.

According to Heritage Auctions, this is the highest ranking ever made for a Super Mario 64.

– The significance of the game for the game history is incredibly important, and the condition of this copy is so fabulous that we do not even know what to say, it says on the auction listing.

Then you can of course ask yourself what someone is going to do with a game for over 13 million kroner, but most of us probably do not have to ever think about it.
