Seagull steals 300 pounds worth of chips from British supermarket: “His favorite is Doritos with cheese flavor” | The best thing on the web

Seagulls are notorious thieves, and so have the supermarket workers at the Tesco branch in the British coastal village of Paignton. A shrewd seagull was after bags of chips and was able to steal loot worth no less than 300 pounds (350 euros), reports the British newspaper ‘The Mirror’.

The inhabitants of the village have christened the seagull ‘Steven Seagull’. After hanging around in the parking lot of the supermarket for a while, the bird seemed to understand the automatic duration system. He slips into the store with a customer, steals a packet of crisps, and then waits patiently for the doors to reopen.

On his last attempt, the flying shoplifter was caught red-handed and the theft was recorded by a customer. The footage shows Steven stealing a bag of cheese chips and then walking out of the store. Once outside, the staff close behind him didn’t stand a chance.

Liam Brown tells The Mirror how he saw Steven sitting on the hood of his car. In his own words, the man knew that the beast “was up to something” and therefore started filming. “He jumped down and started chewing gum off the floor, then casually walked into the store and ran off with a pack of Mini Cheddars,” he recalled.

At least three times a day, the hungry bird would visit the store, and each time steals a fresh bag of chips. It is estimated that he has stolen no less than 17 kilograms of chips in a year, with a retail value of about 300 pounds (350 euros). Employees have already seen him walking out with bags of Monster Munch and Mini Cheddars, but the seagull’s favorite snack, it turns out, is cheese-flavored Doritos. “We have to chase him away because we don’t want to lose the stock. We always keep an eye on things,” says a store employee.

Another customer saw Steven fly out of the store one day with a bag of Doritos. “He flew away with it and then shared the chips with a friend on a rooftop across the road,” she says.
