The organization Se Hace Camino Nueva York, which provides services to the immigrant community, has launched “Casita”, a guidance handbook in Spanish for newcomers to the city in which he welcomes them and provides information on essential resources available.
The 60-page manual, which will be in English in the coming weeks, contains information about your basic rights as New Yorkers, how to access services, resources for those who have cases pending before immigration and how to interact with an immigration agent.
Also about enrolling children in school and how to protect yourself from COVID-19.
New York has received some 70,000 immigrants since August of last year, of which 42,000 are under the care of the city, it provides them with shelter, food and medical services, among other benefits, which has created a humanitarian and economic crisis.
“As the city works to step up and address the current situation, we have created this resource guide to help newly arrived immigrants in their daily lives, learn about their rights and the services available to them, and more”indicated in a statement Luba Cortés, defense coordinator of the immigrants of The Way is Made.
