Celaya, Gto. Now the Secretariat for Agrifood and Rural Development (SDAyR) must have absorbed the 40 million pesos for the purchase of catastrophic insurance for crops, but favorably the rains ensure a good season.
It is recognized that rainfed planting is more susceptible to suffering a catastrophic risk such as droughts or intense rains in a short period of time, hence the State managed to ensure this year 220 thousand hectares of the 250 thousand used, this implies a 90 percent of coverage.
José Gutiérrez Michel, secretary of Agrifood and Rural Development (SDAYR), regretted that the cut in federal support hits the field, especially because its production depends on weather conditions.
“Before the federation provided the catastrophic insurance premium subsidy and reached 80 percent of the insurance, but now that is absorbed by the State, there are 40 million, but they have already confirmed that by 2022 there will be no support at all” .
Gutiérrez Michel clarified that to make the catastrophic insurance valid, it depends on the risk zone, surface and damage of the crop, in addition to that given at a certain moment that the producer has a yield despite the damages, the insurance does not apply.
The Data
Due to the good rainy season that in July reached 100 millimeters, the harvest of the season can be guaranteed at the end of summer, where it is expected to reach a production of 1 million 600 thousand tons of corn, in 400 thousand hectares, and 1 million of tons of sorghum in 200 thousand hectares, with an estimated price of six pesos per kilo, to the producer in the field.
