The Lega Calcio is ready to make the request to the FIGC, the classification would remain detached only in the event of the arrival of more than two teams on equal points
The calendar of the next season of A league (August 13, 2022 – June 4, 2023) will be unveiled on June 24 and could be there an important and revolutionary novelty. In the last Serie A League Council, the clubs decided to ask the FIGCin case of finishing on equal points, the exemption for play for the championship with a playoff. No more direct clashes and goal difference, therefore, but a dry match to assign the title or decide a relegation (if the teams are tied for three or more, the detached ranking). Furthermore, as in the recently concluded season, the calendar will remain asymmetrical: the second round will be completely different from the first leg.

An epochal change which, however, would only concern the Scudetto and the fight not to retreatbecause to decide the teams qualified in the Champions, Europe and Conference League, the criterion of the detached classification will still be valid.
Only once, in the history of Italian football, was the Scudetto awarded through the play-off: it happened in 1964 between Bologna and Inter. On 7 June, at the Olympic Stadium, the final match between Fulvio Bernardini’s rossoblù and the Nerazzurri coached by ‘Mago’ Helenio Herrera was staged. fresh, given that Inter had on their legs the fatigue of Vienna and the celebrations that followed the triumph in the Champions Cup. The Emilians won 2-0 and posted the 7th and last Scudetto in their history.
The play-off for the Scudetto disappeared starting from the 2005/2006 season: the detached classification returned to being the first point taken into consideration, followed by goal difference and the number of goals scored in general. In fact, with this new regulation, the play-off was absolutely excluded.
